With career averages of 5.9 points and 5.2 rebounds per game, Nick Collison was never selected to an all-star game and might not be popular throughout the NBA’s fan-base, but within the Thunder circle, Collison became a face of the franchise. No stranger to superstars, Thunder fans have had Russell Westbrook, Kevin Durant and James Harden to root for during Collison’s tenure, but it’s Collison who has a documentary being released next month.
According to The Oklahoman, the Oklahoma City Thunder partnered with the 2018 deadCenter Film Festival to create a documentary on the retiring 14-year veteran, Nick Collison. The last connection to the Seattle Supersonics, Collison played his entire career with the franchise, four years in Seattle and 10 years in Oklahoma City, earning the nickname “Mr. Thunder,” which fittingly enough is also the name of the soon to be released documentary.
Although Collison wasn’t a glamorous player that filled up the statsheet, his style of play was respected and recognized by fans. According to The Oklahoman, in the documentary, Collison refers to his style of play as “the basketball version of a janitor.”
“You gotta dive on the floor, you do it. You gotta set a screen, you do it. Take a hard foul, you do it. That’s what you’re supposed to do and I think that’s just how I play,” he says in the film.
Mr.Thunder follows Collison over the last two weeks of his playing career, including his final seven regular season games. The film will debut at the 2018 deadCenter Film Festival, June 7-10 in Oklahoma City.
