Stadium just hit a trifecta in terms of insider reporting. The multi-platform 24/7 sports network has added Shams Charania to cover the NBA, Jeff Goodman to cover college basketball, and Brett McMurphy to cover college football. Goodman’s addition had been previously reported. McMurphy’s was the worst kept secret in the sports media. Charania joining the Stadium roster is the biggest surprise of the bunch.
“Shams, Jeff and Brett together bring an incredible track record of trusted and thorough reporting that will continue to build the quality and significance of our daily programming offerings,” Stadium CEO Jason Coyle said in the network’s official press release.
Charania role will be on Stadium’s broadcast offerings. The official press release describes his role as “Lead NBA Insider and Analyst.” Charania is excited about the on-camera work. “I’m thrilled to join Stadium and continue to develop my on-air repertoire. I feel the hunger and desire from everyone, top to bottom, and it gives me excitement for my next step.”
Goodman recently left ESPN after five years, where he served both as a college basketball insider and a reporter surrounding the NBA Draft. Any coming on-camera role at Stadium for him has not yet been announced.
McMurphy was recently the talk of the college football world, breaking the story of Zach Smith’s abuse of his now ex-wife and Urban Meyer’s and Ohio State’s failure to act on it exclusively through his Facebook page. He is a highly decorated reporter with stints at ESPN, AOL, and CBS Sports on his resume. McMurphy will retain his Heisman Trophy and AP Top 25 vote.
“When we launched Stadium in 2017, our goal was to build a destination for sports fans that would be recognized as truly different – a fresh, credible voice that stood out from the crowd of opinionists shouting at each other in the studio,” Coyle said. “As these talented, hard-working, always-hustling journalists became available, it became clear that we had an opportunity to make a strong move, and I’m legitimately thrilled to add Shams, Jeff and Brett to the Stadium family.”
