In what is historically one the year’s slowest weeks for sports talk radio, Kansas City’s 610 Sports released audio of the full 11-minute conversation between Chief’s wide-receiver Tyreek Hill and his fiancé, Crystal Espinal. Set in Dubai International Airport, the audio-recording provided additional context of Hill and Espinal’s physical handling of their son.
The conversation which was recorded without Hill’s knowledge, was reportedly already heard by the Chiefs and the NFL and had been in the hands of 610 Sports since June 7th. In April, KCTV5 released clips of the audio, but it was not until July 9th that the full recording was made public.
Post-NBA’s wave of free agency, pre-NFL training camp and with Major League Baseball in the middle of their All-Star break, 610 Sports was able to create a more meaningful radio discussion by releasing the 11-minute long piece of audio. According to the radio station and afternoon drive co-host Carrington Harrison, timing, however, had nothing to do with why they played the recording. 610 Sports held back on releasing the audio for a month to complete their due diligence and make sure they could play the it publicly.
The full 11-minute conversation between Hill and Espinal was played during 610’s afternoon show The Drive. According to The Drive’sco-host, Carrington Harrison, the audio was played without alteration except for “bleeping” out names of individuals and expletives.
Hill: You ruined my life and you lied on me in 2014, bro, and if you want to rewind that night we can rewind that night too, [expletive]. You was in my house. And did I pick you up and slam you? Hell no, I picked you up and put you out my door and after that you left. And on my son you did that, bro. And then then you get in the courtroom you want to sit up there and cry on the stand. ‘He hit me, he hit me.’ Man, come on bro.
Espinal: Then where did the bruises come from, Tyreek?
Hill: Did I hit you?
Espinal: Where did the bruises come from?
Hill: Did I hit you, though?
Espinal: I’m asking you where did the bruises come from.
Hill: Did I hit you? Tell me the truth in my eyes right now. Look at me.
Espinal: We’re not thinking about that. Right now the issue is [our son].
Hill: We’re gonna handle both of these issues right now while it’s on my chest cause [I’m] still hurt over that bro.
On June 26th, Hill met with the NFL for eight-hours. Still awaiting word on their talented wide-receiver’s status for the season, the Chiefs are currently planning for Hill to participate in training camp.
At first, Harrison said the 11-minute audio would not be podcasted, but 610 Sports did end up posting the full conversation between Hill and Espinal on their website.
