Astros fans buy sneakers too, but that won’t stop LeBron James’ media company from creating a docuseries about the team’s recent cheating scandal.
According to Variety, Uninterrupted, the multimedia company and “athlete empowerment brand,” co-founded by James and Maverick Carter, will partner with Quibi to bring fans an inside look at the Houston Astros infamous sign-stealing scandal. The series, which has the working title Sign Language, did not announce a release date, but will be available on Quibi, a short form mobile video platform which launched in April.
“The documentary will transcend the baseball diamond to explore larger themes of greed, cheating, corruption, sportsmanship and social media activism,” Quibi said in a press release.
Behind Maverick Carter and LeBron James, Uninterrupted should help provide Sign Language access to notable athletes and reporters for the doc. Carter will also contribute as an executive producer, while the series will be directed by Julia Willoughby Nason and Jenner Furst, known for their work on a documentary about the failed 2017 Fyre Festival, Fyre Fraud. According to Variety, play-by-play voice Ryan Ruocco and former major league pitcher CC Sabathia will be involved with the series. Ruocco and Sabathia host the popular Uninterrupted podcast, R2C2.
News of Sign Language comes a few months after the producers of Slow Burn announced a podcast series on the 2017 Astros was in the works, with hopes of also developing a TV adaptation.
