Darren McKee Involved In N-Word Twitter Mistake
“After learning of the mistake, McKee deleted the tweet and issued an apology on social media. He was missing from Monday’s show.”
Another sports media personality has stepped in it on Twitter. The latest incident occurred in Denver, where 104.3 The Fan afternoon host Darren McKee sent out a tweet with the intention of typing the word Nuggets, but accidentally typed the N-word instead.
After learning of the mistake, McKee deleted the tweet and issued an apology on social media. A few members of the local sports media, including McKee’s former partner Alfred Williams, colleague Chad Brown, and former teammate turned competitor Vic Lombardi came forward to support McKee and attest to his character.
McKee’s blunder comes one week after Charlotte Hornets play by play voice John Focke make the same exact error. That situation earned the Hornets announcer an indefinite suspension.
No word yet on what punishment Bonneville will hand down to McKee but he was absent from his show today on 104.3 The Fan. James Merilatt was filling in alongside Tyler Polumbus.
D-Mac as he’s known to local listeners has been one of the market’s top personalities for over a decade. Though the tweet may not have been intended as it came out, it serves as a reminder that on-air personalities have got to do a much better job of looking over their tweets before pressing the send button. One mistake could cost someone their career.
