NBA fans have been acting out left and right during the NBA Playoffs, and that didn’t stop Monday night in Game Four between the Wizards and 76ers. A fan ran onto the court during the third quarter of action, prompting who else but Kevin Harlan to describe the incident with Reggie Miller. The fan runs from center court, attempting to jump and touch the rim before getting slammed down by security. The second time in a week that a fan had acted out in the series.
“Oh my goodness, what is going on?” Harlan said during the broadcast. “We’ve got a fan on the floor. And a diving tackle by the security! With 3:40 to go here in the third,” Miller responded. “The Redskins might want to look into hiring that man right there! What a tackle by the security!”
Harlan has called his fair share of knuckleheads running onto the field of play, usually adding his signature excitement to the rare occurrences. Reckless fan behavior has been anything but rare to start the 2021 NBA playoffs.
Star players like Russell Westbrook and Kyrie Irving have had popcorn and a water bottle thrown at them after games in the past week. Trae Young was even spat on during action at Madison Square Garden in the Hawks series with the Knicks. The arenas banned all of those fans, but it hasn’t stopped a select few from making a scene.
“Look how far the guy had to run,” Harlan added while security took the fan away. “There’s limited viewing and they’ve taken out all the end zone seats, and quickly he is off the floor, and great job by the security in Washington.”
It was smooth sailing from then on for Harlan and Miller as the Wizards stayed alive in the series with a 122-114 victory over Philadelphia.
