The 2021 National Association of Broadcasters announced nominees for the Marconi Awards as the industry eagerly prepares for the event on Oct. 13 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Attendees registering for the radio show in Sin City attend the Marconi Reception immediately after Wednesday’s “Putting Podcasting to Work for Local Revenue and Marketing” session. Sports radio has a litany of names and stations on the list of nominees this year.
Starting in the “Legendary Manager of the Year” category, Joe Bell represents the Beasley Media Group. Philadelphia’s 97.5 The Fanatic resides under his umbrella and is fresh off a strong showing in the spring ratings book.
The Musers on 96.7/1310 The Ticket in Dallas, Texas, are collecting nominations like paperweights at this point, as the whole group is up for “Major Market Personality of the Year.” George Dunham, Craig Miller, and Gordon Keith have been entertaining listeners for more than 20 years during morning drive on the Ticket. The trio is on the air from 5:30a-10a CT and have now added their sixth Marconi Award nomination.
Only one sports station made the cut as nominee for “Major Market Station of the Year”. That station is 98.5 The Sports Hub in Boston, MA. The legendary sports radio brand has recently been on a tear in the Boston ratings.
Three podcasts with ties to the sports format or local/national sports brands made the cut for “Best Radio Podcast of the Year,” including, Garage Logic, from Hubbard Radio in Minneapolis, Purple Daily, from SKOR North in Minneapolis, and Outkick the Coverage with Clay Travis, from Premiere Radio Networks.
Last but certainly not least, there were five nominees for “Sports Station of the Year”. Cracking the list this year included, 92.9 ESPN in Memphis, TN, 1460 KXNO in Des Moines, IA, Sports Radio WIP in Philadelphia, PA, 96.7/1310 The Ticket in Dallas, TX, and 97.1 The Ticket in Detroit, MI.
The awards were established in 1989 and named after Nobel Prize winner and inventor Guglielmo Marconi.
