After hearing fans and staff make their cases for weeks, 94 WIP host Angelo Cataldi announced on Tuesday who the station would be endorsing for starting quarterback of the Philadelphia Eagles this season.
“Ladies and gentleman, the Eagles quarterback for the year 2022 will be… Russell Wilson!” Cataldi exclaimed.
Cataldi went on to say that he received two signs in the last day or so that really cemented his choice.
“The first sign came Sunday afternoon in New York City,” he said. “I was watching the Philadelphia 76ers with a brand new superstar James Harden and I realize something, I had what you call an epiphany.
“And I realized when you add a great player to a team, you are not just adding a great player, you’re adding a whole new dynamic. You are taking other players and changing who they are, and changing the way they see each other.”
Cataldi said the other sign was a lengthy in-depth piece on Wilson by PhillyVoice writer Jimmy Kempski.
“It was a doctoral thesis,” Cataldi said of the article. “It was so long and so detailed on why the only choice is Russell Wilson.”
Kempski joined Cataldi and spoke further about the choice, saying he watched Wilson in the first five games of the 2021 season up to the point Wilson injured his finger and ended up missing a month’s worth of games. He said Wilson looked as good in those five games as he had been to this point in his career.
Still, there’s the matter of the trade actually getting done. Wilson has been public about saying he’s keeping his options open and expressing interest in being traded from Seattle.
“It’s going to be a very steep price,” Kempski said. “It’s going to take three first-round picks.”
Cataldi went on to say that perhaps if the Seattle Seahawks were interested in Eagles QB Jalen Hurts, or the Eagles enticed Seattle with another high-level player, that the price could come down slightly. He also said that people are automatically assuming that these three hypothetical first-rounders would amount to superstars in the league. He said there’s no guarantee that will happen.
Regardless, and the fans voted to keep their faith in Hurts, Cataldi has officially spoken on the matter.
“This is the beginning of our new life!” he said.
