Jox 94.5 Extends Flagship Deal With UAB
“The Blazers are Birmingham’s hometown team, and we are proud to broadcast them on our airwaves.”
The UAB Blazers have a new home for football in downtown Birmingham. On the radio though, the team will stay where it has always been after signing an extension with Jox 94.5.
Cumulus Birmingham and Blazers Sports Properties have signed an extension to keep UAB sports on the iconic three-station brand for three more years. Football will air on Jox 94.5. Basketball will be on Jox 100.5. Coaches shows featuring Trent Dilfer, Andy Kennedy and Randy Norton will also air on 100.5.
“We are thrilled to extend our partnership with UAB Athletics and Blazer Sports Properties,” VP/Market Manager for Cumulus Media Birmingham James Robinson said in a press release. “The Blazers are Birmingham’s hometown team, and we are proud to broadcast them on our airwaves. It’s a great partnership and we look forward to many exciting Blazer Football and Blazer Men’s Basketball games as well as the Coaches shows with Trent Dilfer, Andy Kennedy and Randy Norton.”
Blazers Sports Properties is operated by Learfield. The company worked with Cumulus on the extension.
“Cumulus has been a great partner for many years and the relationship with Blazers Athletics continues to get stronger,” Blazer Sports Properties GM Greg Wheeler said. “WJOX 94.5 FM and JOX2 100.5 FM are the best places to tune for sports programming in this market and it’s a perfect fit for our broadcasts.”

Evan Roberts Says WFAN Found Next Star in Audition This Week
Evan Roberts thinks he has heard the future of WFAN. The co-host of Carton & Roberts said Tuesday afternoon that an overnight audition he heard on the station is going to yield big results.
Roberts said he could not sleep on Monday night, so he turned on the station to hear a new voice on the air and he was impressed.
“Alvin was on the air from midnight to two, and I’m going to make your prediction. He will be full-time here in the next three years,” he said. “Very good. He was tremendous.”
The Alvin in question is Alvin Cintron. He is a listener that Carton & Roberts explained would make videos and send them to program director Spike Eskin with a note asking when he would get his shot on WFAN.
“I listened to about 45 minutes of it,” Roberts said. “First radio show ever! I think the story is Spike literally found the guy on social media and said, ‘You know what? I’ll give you a shot.’”
Cintron posted a video on Facebook of himself listening to the segment. He called it “surreal.”
Craig Carton joked that if Evan Roberts thinks Alvin Cintron is going to be part of WFAN’s full-time staff in the next three years, that means he has someone on the staff getting fired and that Alvin is going to jump ahead of the current WFAN part-timers working towards the same goal.
“I didn’t put anybody down,” Roberts answered. “All I said was I thought he was brilliant last night, and I’m making a prediction. I think within the next three years, he’s full time.”

In addition to hosting his radio show, Canzano continues to write columns on his website and also engages in a subscriber chat to interact directly with fans. A former columnist for various newspapers, including The San Jose Mercury News, The Oregonian, and The Fresno Bee, Canzano was named the National Sports Columnist of the Year by the Society of Professional Journalists in 2010 and 2015. He is one of the authoritative voices on the Pac-12 and sports in the state.
