Cornish has been hired by CNN as an anchor and correspondent for the network's new streaming service, CNN+.
Shapiro, who is on vacation, prefaced his statements by saying the network is “hemorrhaging” hosts from “marginalized backgrounds.”
During her tenure at NPR, Cornish won national awards for her reporting while hosting “Weekend Edition” and “All Things Considered.”
